Default Sunroof cables frozen/rusted

'76 911, sunroof inoperable, pulled everything using Pelican DIY... all good until cables wouldn't budge. Read about frozen/rusted cables. Gave passenger side a twist with vice grips, eventually came loose. Crud and rust.

Driver side cable is stuck as well, BUT end of cable is about 6" under roof. I can get a pair of vice grips on end, put can't twist it loose or get any leverage to pull it. I tried using a screwdriver to push on cable from where drive gear engages.. no luck.

Any ideas to get this cable out?

Thanks!

Eric

Unbolt the cable guide tubes from the back of the sunroof bucket. Is the roof lining out?

A friend of mine has exactly your problem on his 1976 911S.
He's having the sunroof welded shut and removing all of the rest of the sunroof stuff.
