Default oil temperature gauge

Hi all.

I now have the 1979 RHD UK Spec 911 SC Targa running and notice that the oil temperature dial stays in the cold even after 1 hours driving!

Would this be a faulty dial? Or a faulty sender unit?

Where is the sender unit on the engine and is it easy to replace?

Many thanks

Ian

Sorry I can't help too much, but I do have a similar problem. Mine does not go all the way down when the car is off, and will not go up past the first white line when the car is very warm. I am just trying to figure out how to test the sender and the gague.

Pelicanparts sells a "back date" kit. It comes with the sender and the gague for around $100. It comes with a gague with acctual numbers on it so you know how warm your engine really is. I'm planning on switching to that as soon as I finish some more important projects first.

Pull the wire off the temp sender and short it out in the engine block, if the guage moves it is the sender... The sender is next to the engine number - the big can is the pressure guage and the little one next to it is the temp.

The temperature guage has the numbers on the inside face - I cant remember is you can see them if you look at an extreme angle to the guage but I did jot the numbers down last time I pulled on apart... see the attachment.
