One other thing about yesterdays experience. I noticed that turning the wheel required some effort. It was almost halfway between power steering and manual steering (closer to manual). Is this common with the 84-89 cars or was this yet another issue with this vehicle?
Thanks,
Adam

Adam,
I do not believe that the 1984-1989 Carreras had power steering. My '89 drives like a truck at low "parking lot" speeds. Think of it as upper body exercise without a trip to the gym.

There is no power steering on any of the cars before the 964 series. For what it's worth, the power assist on the 964s is, in my opinion, really weak...almost non-existent. I really don't know why they bothered with it at all.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the 964 was originally released as a C4, hence the need for power steering. It then becomes part of the 964 platfrorm, hence ends up on a C2. Maybe the steering is boosted differently depending on C2 or C4 version?
I think the steering inputs on my '87 (with turbo tie rods) are fantastic. There is a perspective on the 87 vs 993 steering on this thread.

Don:
The power steering setups between the C2 and the C4 are identical. I've driven RSAs with the pump completely off, and I really don't think the effort required for a C4 would be much worse. I guess people are so used to everything being easy that Porsche felt they needed to put it in, even if it wasn't all that effective.
I know, I know...you're all thinking "maybe Bill's a he-man like Arnold Schwartzenager (spelling???)). Yes..you're right. I do 12 ounce curls regularly almost every night!![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
