New Owner - Targa help
Hello all. On saturday purchased a 911 SC 3.0 1979. However i tried to take off the targa today and where the release handle goes inat the top, the latch sheared.
How do i replace the latch that holds the targa into the windscreen. help!!!!
Great car though.
Anyone had problems with the battery running low after a few hours?
Regards
ian

you can pretty much buy each individual component for the targa top. I've attached an explosion of the targa top assembly. Tell me by number which piece(s) is(are) broken and i'll get you the porsche part number. Then just call the place you'd like to get parts from.
And, congradulations on your targa...you'll love it!

Ian-
was it the latch (#3) or the handle to release the latch (#8 above). If it was #8, you'll probably have to get the remaining piece out and then use the other key to release the latch. On my '85, when latched, the handle is horizontal and when released, it is vertical.
hope this helps and welcome to owning a Targa!

Hi all and many thaks to both of you for the reply.
The part that is broken is the latch (#'3). Both the release handles are perfect.
The part of the latch that holds the release handle is sheared. Night mare.
Anyone know how to get part 3 out?
Ian

If your battery is going flat with no load on it I would disconnect it re-charge it and measure the voltage, it should give out about 12-14volts. If it's lost it's charge after a few hours you know the battery has a problem. If it doesn't lose charge when disconnected then the cars wiring is shorting somewhere or you have a courtesy light or some other current draining device switched on.
