Default Problem areas on 72 911T

I am going to take a look at a 72 911T that is for sale and I was hoping to get some pointers on where the trouble spots are on these cars. I'm told the underside of the car is original which concerned me but the seller assures me it is in good shape, obviously I still want to check it out for myself. TIA

Rob,

If that car does not work out for you, I have a truly no rust West coast 72 T I would like to sell with no sunroof, Mostly original light ivory (white) paint, good black interior, very straight body, good running engine with 57k miles (138K total) all receipts ect. Car has no modifications and has not been goofed up by anybody. It needs some minor details and some cleaning and polishing. It is a very good find. Located on Long Island, price $13,000 call Don (631)786 6511, (631)277 8518 Thanks

Rust. Rust. Rust. Look EVERYwhere. Check the rockers, doorjams, underside of the doors, the front trunk, the battery boxes (both of them!), insides of fenders, look closely around the glass and door trim for bubbling, check for signs of leakage in the back windows (which will rust out the rear seat area...hidden away under the carpet), lift interior carpets front and back...and then check it all again. And then just to be safe, once more.

Mechanically, check for the usual 911 things. Basically, get a PPI done if you're unfamiliar with 911s of this (or any) vintage. It's WELL worth the time and effort in the long run. And it's easier to find rust when the car is on a lift!

Good luck!

Thanks for the offer Damon. I am in the Manchester area and the car is in Manchester. I took a brief look at the car already and I'm not overly impressed with it. I will most likely pass on it.
A couple of years ago I was in the Sunapee area and I came across a shop that had some early 911's out front in various stages of restoration. I was on the main route 101 maybe but I can't be sure? Is that your shop or are you familiar with it?
Thanks again for the offer.

Hi Rob, You have to chase all leads , but once in a while the goose lays an egg. Better to pass and look for what you really want. Yes that would have been my shop on RT103 one mile west of Mt Sunapee. Maybe you saw some of my children....

Wow. I would love to stop by sometime! When I had gone by I did turn around and go up the drive and look around but like I said this was quite awhile ago. I also remember a 69 or 70 grand prix parked out back.

Rob,

Long Island is not that far. If you find any rust on my T I will give it to you!

Best,

Don

Yes it is true Virginia some Porsches do not have rust. Only those with rusty Porsches say they all do!

Best,

Don

Sorry to burst your ballon but there are only two types of long noses, those that are rusty and those that are going to rust.
