Default Opinions on best brand for new alternator

It looks like I may have to purchase a new alternator for the 1980 911SC. So far, I have come across rebuilt units from Bosch, Valeo, Paris Rhone, and AC Delco.

What are some of your opinions on these? Is there a brand that I should definitely stay away from? Prices seem to vary from about $200 to close to $400. So , a recommendation on the best option and where to find it would also be appreciated. Thanks!

Not really experienced but I when my starter failed, I heard nothing good about "brand name" rebuilds.
Found a local shop that does starters, alternators etc. Rebuilt mine for $80 and it's fine.

Ask a mechanic or at your parts store for the shop they use(and you'll have an original part in your car if that matters)

Just went through this my dang self. Bearings went out and sounded like all hell breaking loose. Took it off and pondered my options. Like you, was curious at the varying prices and makes. Mine was a Paris Rhone. I asked around and found a guy who has a starter/alt shop in my home town. I thought they had all gone extinct! This guy did it for $70. I tipped him an extra $20. It works like a charm.

Today, I took the alternator to my mechanic to get rebuilt. Bearings were bad, at least. The fan housing was cracked in several areas so I need to find a replacement. The fan had a couple chips in it, probably from something hitting it over the years (?) but no cracks.

Thanks. I will consider contacting you if I can't re-use mine. My alternator is currently being assessed to see if it can be rebuilt. I prefer this since I know exactly where the wires will hook up to. All of the new/rebuilt ones look slightly different.

Dealer quoted 507.00, which is close to other vendors and comes with a Porsche Classic box.
