A BIG BS to that...

Using the suction side gas to sub-cool (cooling refrigerant that's already in a liquid state.) is a bit like robbing Peter to pay Paul.

There is NO gain from cooling the liquid refrigerant prior to it reaching the TXV that will compensate for the HEATING of the suction line gas.

Just adds to more compressor load.

Maybe on an EPR (Evaporator Pressure Regulator) system wherein there is oftentimes(***) cooling capacity downstream of the EPR that must be "disposed" of.

*** Once the evaporator temperature reaches, and can be sustained, at 33dF.
