Default 1980 911 Transmission

Hi, looking to replace the manual transmission in my recently acquired 1980 911 SC. The vendor search turned up a lot of nothing. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

Lon

You have two options...

Rebuild your current trans, or buy a core and rebuild that... I'd say your options are $3.5K USD or $4.5K USD

What's wrong? Seldom is a box that's intact at all simply a core.

What Ken said. What's wrong with it?

If you want to ship it, CMS or Bill Rader. If you tell us where you are I can probably put you in touch with a local who can also R&R the box if you prefer.

Not sure what the problem is until I break it down completely. PO told me prior to purchase that trans was shot and would need to be replaced. I do a lot of my own maint. but transmissions are best left to those in the know so I will be having another person familiar with them get into it this weekend and will report back what the situation is.
Thanks for the help, btw I am in Kingwood, TX.

Don't know that I would rip apart a gearbox on a seller's claim the thing us shot. It had to show some sort of signs when driving that make you believe his claims.

Can't count the number of times I got a car (especiallly a 914) in needing a trans "rebuild" when it turned out to be hammered dog teeth on first, and the clutch was shot from being misadjusted. (This was when most 915 box cars had 30-50K miles, so we really didn't have to do anything but fix the busted parts. Obviously much more comprehensive inspection is required today.)
