Help a 964 brother out! BBS RS Fitment issues
Hello wise people of rennlist! I am looking for help with a wheel fitment issue for my 964.
I have been chasing a look for my 964 with much enthusiasm only to be totally heartbroken by the outcome. (see pics)
I've been going on what I can find on the forums and internet on how to achieve this look. As far as I can tell, these are BBS RS centers, that have been re-built to accommodate 18" lips and barrels.
I found a company in LA who manufactures such aftermarket parts. I posted wanted ads all over creation to try and find the BBS Centers.
I searched online for smart people who have knowledge of such things and found many articles. This one being the most helpful: 964 BBS Picture thread - Page 14 - Rennlist Discussion Forums
I followed the measurements exactly. Ordered the parts I needed sight unseen. And had the wheels built. The result were beautiful and triumphant. (see pics)
Clearly, this will not work.
I've seen so many pics of people who have DONE THIS. I am begging for your help if you are one of them or if you actually know what the max dish/offset/backspace tolerances are for the 964 C2.
If anyone here has done this please let me know. If anyone here knows anyone who has done this, please let me know!
From my understanding the RS centers I have may have been for an 80's car which had a narrower hub placement in the wheel well.
I'm willing to pay for expertise if it exists. I'm in the bay area, california if anyone knows someone out here who has this expertise. Just getting tired of chasing people who THINK they know what they're talking about but who have zero practical experience.
Please help!

Yeah, those look like the BBS centers we used to bolt onto the slope conversions in the '80s/early '90s with the fake centerlock. All those were 16" wheels. Zero idea how you go about getting the extra 20-40mm offset you need. Clearly in photo #2 and #3, you've got something that's set up for a torsion bar chassis. And probably a widebody.
Bigger question is are you trying to use this wheel on a car that still actually works as a car? Or is this in conjunction with the all slammed to hell, bump steer be damned "look"?

Hey Ken - thanks for the input. Yeah, definitely want it to work as a car. Check out the first pic. That's a euro spec car with RS's. I want a euro ride height, not all dumped out.
That's what i'm hearing - the 80's and 90's cars had different hub-to-hub lengths. I'm just trying to find out if what I've got is salvageable or if I have to start from scratch.
Just can't figure out how that 964 in pic 1 got that look...

not sure waht ctr you showed there. "RS" is not the odel number
the look in pic one shows a tiny center with barrel extending the diamter thereby making a weak wheel.
this is a E88 18" ctr

I'm not sure what the proper term is, but I refer to those as step-up lips. It lets you convert a 16" center into an 18" wheel.
It looks like what you have is an RS012 center which is designed to be a 16x7 et23 or 16x8 et11. Another thing to consider is that the car in your first picture probably has a similar wheel "poke" to your third picture. It looks less dramatic with stretched tires and the suspension set super low. They may have also added negative camber to get the top of the wheel closer in-line with the outer edge of the fender.

HI All - yes you're right. They are RS012's meant for the older cars. That's the first place I went wrong. Looking at replacing with a wheel with less flange height. Then I think I need to re-do lips and barrels. Argh!

I did - they were SUPER helpful. Left a msg on their website and got a call back in less than 1h. Guy spent over an hour with me going through options and calculating flange heights and ET's for wheels that were made "before he was born".
Cannot say enough good things about the customer service at BBS right now.

I ended up having the wheels completely refurbished and built up as front mount. The result is a slightly narrower wheel that I have Bridgestone 225/50/16s mounted to in the rear and 205/55/16s in the front.
I'm not as into the big wheel tiny tire look on these cars, so my tire profile is much larger than most 964 guys run. The fitment is pretty much maxed out, as my fenders are rolled and the tires will rub if I hit a big dip at speed. To do it all over again, I'd go with a narrower tire in the rear.

Surprised you're running 225 in the rear and find it tight. You must have spacers on. I've heard 255's fit on 10"s on the back of the 964. Don't know if I have to roll though...
