Follow the price trend of big ticket 73RS vs driver level 964/3.2/SC over the past 5 years and you will see a very direct relationship.

A rising tide lifts all boats.

But not all boats rise equally.

Not sure how this car really relates though. A 1965, painted by Klasen in 2009. Pretty much an anomaly in my opinion, apparently the bidders thought the same.

An 89 speedster only brought 128,000 euro, maybe more indicative.
A RUF turbo had the buyers' interest at 224,000 Euro though.

Since the upper segments of the car market seem to follow the art market this is an interesting story. It may not involve anyone on this forum but it's interesting. I could see the same thing happening with some Ferraris. Porsches? Not so much.

A few crazy examples of asking prices in Canada.

1987 911 nothing special 87,000 miles asking CAD$115,000
http://wwwa.autotrader.ca/a/Porsche/...&orup=23_15_75

1992 C2 107,000km asking CAD$93,000
http://wwwa.autotrader.ca/a/Porsche/...&orup=28_15_75

1988 911 81,000km asking US$80,000
http://wwwa.autotrader.ca/a/Porsche/...&orup=38_15_75

There is no way those cars will get sold remotely close to asking price.

I definately see a correction. Cars are sitting a lot longer and you are seeing price reductions on the normal 911s.

I sold my 997 TT earlier this year and have been watching the market carefully. I am going to take a wait and see approach. A year ago any G-50 car would be sold in a day or two, now that's not the case.

This has been said 100 times in this thread. There is no correction, the best cars get the best money. What you guys are talking about are driver quality cars trying to piggy-back on those best cars. Low mileage , top notch cars and documented 911's will continue to fetch good money. Absolutely those average drivers will languish in comparison.

Right, the weakness is in the driver-quality segment of the market. Exceptional cars are still bringing exceptional money.

I have personally seen crappy under 20k mile 1986's. I searched for two years for mine and I learned one thing...people's definition of " quality" varies so much that I almost gave up.

When the IRS appraises my Estate, my heirs can worry what the car sells for.
