The SWB cars are their own market, and early production dates are at a premium... as GT said, 6-figs is a starting point for a legit car... collectors are eating these early cars up... these are "Concours" candidate cars...$$$$.

It's just crazy. 8 years ago I was offered a complete '65 engine with Solexes. $2000 complete or $1000 for Solexes with manifolds, cross linkage and air cleaners. I bought just the carbs and thought I made a crazy deal when I sold them to a vintage FIA race shop in Great Britain for $5k. I could buy an SC if I had that whole engine out in the barn today.
I didn't think to take pictures. There was a small dent in the hood, but the rest of the car was perfect. Javier is a realtor and came across it in the garage of a widow that was selling the house. Took a bit of work to the carbs and he was off to the races.

How about racing history and ownership?
Racing history a definite yes. Provenance is very important even if not numbers matching. Many racecars popped their engine. If there is documentation that the original engine blew and current engine was put in and used going forward that is almost as good as numbers matching, especially if the racer is famous.

Correct type number is more valuable than if it has something like a 2.4T or a 2.7 swap in it.
