Default Intro and new to me 1987 Carrera Coupe

Hello Air Cooled Rennlisters,

I'd like to introduce myself to this forum, I've been around Rennlist for the last 10 years in the water cooled area ever since I purchased my brand new (then) 2004 40th Anniversary Edition 911.

Two weeks ago I had another dream in the 911 World come true in the form of the purchase of a 1987 Carrera in Grand Prix white (wife made me do it... seriously)... And after some serious "Spring cleaning" in the garage I've finally been able to have it share a spot next to her younger brother.

This car's name is "Glinda" as in the good witch from Wizard of Oz. I'm the 4th owner at 125K miles and have know the last 2 previous owners and car for the last 15 years. Car is bi-coastal, and has decided to stay in California for most of its life. It's practically all original numbers matching, original paint, with nice suspension upgrades, chip, tweaks here and there, original restored fuchs and Carrera logo finished in dove grey to match the restored dove grey interior. Engine is solid being rebuilt 2K miles ago, new clutch, new rubber all over, all dials and leather have been restored... and it's an incredible joy to ride.

Been doing extensive canyon carving the last few days and learning to appreciate the analog raw and old school feel that it brings. I love the feel of the G50 gearbox and amazed how close it feels to the one 20 years younger on my 40th Anniversary. The road feel, smells and sounds are so unique and transport the driver and passenger to another era. It's light, nimble, low, agile, and a huge difference without the modern power steering feel.

I've also been a sharp student of the Bentley repair guide, this forum and Pelican forums, and appreciate everyone's inputs to the knowledge base here... Got many projects planned for it beginning with the AC upgrade and getting the fresh air blower to work (big upcoming road trip to Utah this May), and look forward to the DIY and upgrade/restore/maintain projects that will come along the way.

These are beautiful machines from a bygone era and as a true Porsche enthusiast I plan to do my part in preserving this beautiful example that is "Glinda"...

Will be seeing you often here and look forward to participating amongst the great air-cooled crowd here.

Cheers to all

And here's the obligatory pics of course...

Congratulations! Looks beautiful - though I may be partial to the colour! Love that you have the wingless decklid on the wall of the garage - just in case! I did the same

Wow, is that gorgeous. Love the light interior with the white exterior, and the gray script on the side. Very classy. I had 2 3.2's, both with white wheels and spoilers, but the combo with this interior is my dream!

That is exactly the car I dreamt of owning. You are one lucky dog.

She's a stunner!
You will leave that 996 to collect dust now!
I bought my Targa, while I had a new, '09 C2S. I since sold the S, but holding tight to the Targa!

Thank you!... Yeah I also dreamt of owning this very car ever since I saw one similar to it about 40 years ago when I was a little kid, and growing in a country where Porsches where very uncommon... I remember the moment vividly. I was cruising on a steep hilly road with my dad in his super slow VW van at the time (not much you can do uphill with 45hp )... Saw this white thing approaching us fast and passing us with ease and disappearing in seconds... I was in awe of the machine... the looks... the tail... the sound... the speed... And then I asked my dad what the heck is that?!?... My dad said that's a Porsche 911... And I told my dad I will own one of those one day!.... And here I am 40 years later... Living the dream. My dad at 85 yrs old is still alive and is so happy to remember about that moment and the present blessing.

Wow. Clean car! Now the madness is both water-cooled and air-cooled.
