1974 Us Rs?
Hi All,
I Used to have a 96 C4S have been wanting to get back into a Porsche ever since selling it. I would like a quick, reliable but "off the beaten path" car. Just saw a RS lightweight at Limerock and fell for it. Don't have the bucks for a lightweight, but I saw a 74 US RS supposedly all original for $50k. Any advice on pricing and whether this car would fit the bill for me would be appreciated. I am also looking at a 94 3.6 turbo. Thanks in advance!

74 RS?
There was a US 74 Carrera, but it wasn't an RS version. 175hp and there's one for sale here in Denver with 42k miles for $10k. In Europe, they continued the 73 RS motor in these cars (210hp), but no way it's worth $50k IMHO...

I'll concurr with Grant here; those '75 Euro Carrera's are not worth $ 50K,...maybe $ 30K at best.
The '74 RS Carrera was never imported to the US and remains a VERY rare car. Those are well over $ 100K.
The '74 US Carrera is a fine car if redone, and at $ 10K with 42K miles (if thats true) is a real deal!
All of these cars are totally different from a 3.6 Turbo so I'd advise not comparing them with each other.
You should drive examples of each (or something very close) and determine which one fills your particular needs; they all have very different personalities,....

Thanks for the input guys. I have been "in the market" for a while but had not really considered the older cars, and have not had a chance to drive one. In general, I would think that the older cars are fun to drive because they are relatively light - and weight is the enemy, right?
I think the RS car I have seen advertised is a concours winning car so his feeling is that he should get a premium. - although judging by your responses, that premium is a bit high.

There was no 74 US RS. As mentioned the Euro 74 RS is one HOT car and very rare (read: very pricey).
Seems like your seller might have a 74 with RS spec 2.7 with Manual Fuel Injection (MFI). In that case, this is a great car (I have one so I'm biased ). I'm not sure what they are worth. I paid $14k for mine but I've spent about $8k on it so far (carpet, torsion bars, wheels, race rubber, seals, oil cooler, IROC bumpers etc...). So a nice one should be around the mid $20's. This should be a quick car (2400 lbs and 210 hp) nice driving car. Don't compare to a turbo totally different purposes.
Give us all the specs and we can give you better info.
