Hi all,
I'm shopping for a 997 and came across probably one of the highest mileage 997s I've seen. It is a 2007 C4 Cabriolet with 152k miles but it looks great, haven't had a chance to drive it yet but maybe later tonight. Lots of upgrades, selling for about $23k. One owner, dealer trade with upgraded turbo wheels, stereo, maintenance records and clean title and history.
What do you guys think? too high in miles for the money? Wait for another deal or jump on this?

time for a new ims, but with this engine it is a somewhat expensive since you already got the thing taken all apart situation.
if you're prepared to fork over the cash rebuilding the engine - go for it....
otherwise, drive it until she quits and replace it with a good GT3 engine and lot of your hard-earned cash.
could be awhile. could be soon. or very soon.

911's have had an ims since 1998 on the 996 and the 997.1 had one till 2008. When the 997.2 came out the engine was redesigned and eliminated the ims bearing and gained direct injection.

Semantics but 99 was the first year of the 996. 98 was one of the finest cars ever built, the last of the 993s and as quoted above it was the 08 997.2 that eliminated the IMS

(And even our air cooleds have an intermediate shaft--just that it's set in plain bearings, not susceptible to the sealed roller bearing failure nonsense of the M96/M97 water cooleds.)
