From: Somewhere in a galaxy far, far away....
I would head straight to the house today and get the VIN. (Check for a plate and model on the back)
I would then contact the town to see who owns the property and I would contact DMV to track down the owner of the VIN.
If you can find the owner or estate of owner, I would offer them $5-15k depending on model and title.
Once you sort out the title you can then clean it up and ebay it, or you can strip it to the tub and start a full and lengthy restoration.
Or you can give me the address

He's right, I missed that. So it appears to be very early car mutilated with after market mirrors and such.

Very common back in the 70's. My '68T had an accident around 1973 (long before I owned it). When it was repaired it was color changed to a '73 color, S front bumper, ducktail, and cookie cutters.

yes the costs of a rusted out tub after sitting in that position for many years would very quickly make it cost prohibitive.
The costs and labor of welding in a new torque tube alone and getting it perfect would be large. you wouldnt really know until you are in there.
it may be worth it financially but i wouldnt want the air cooled bubble to burst while im in the middle of a resto.

Great story. You're effectively buying a VIN. Assume it'll cost $50k to restore. If it's a $50k VIN, that could be a fun project. If it's a $250k VIN, well...
Curious to see where this goes. It's so sad to see these cars languishing undriven, whether out in a field or in a climate-controlled garage.

OP, take it from someone who is restoring a SWB right now, DO NOT go into a resto thinking you will profit from it.
