Default '89 911 - Door Pocket repair - supports split plastic

Hi RennList,

My '89 911 has a broken door pocket, the plastic split where the screw holds it on to the door handle/latch mechanism. I scrounged an old Simpson tie (2.84mm thick) and made an "L" bracket which nicely takes the pocket's weight off the screw and keeps anymore damage from occurring. A quick and easy fix that is invisible but functional. Pics show the piece. Bent in a vise, cut off, edges rounded. Lined it up on the pocket to indicate where the screw hole was, center punched and drilled. Whole thing took less than 30 minutes to fabricate and install.
pic 1 - the bracket
pic 2 - installed - seen from a distance
pic 3 - installed closeup - can see the split plastic above the screw

I like those - great stuff! But why an L bracket? I do not see where the short side of the L fits.

You might want to sell a few and sell them? What about doing them brush finished and painted satin black, or better yet black anodized. Sell a pair with (black) screws for $25-$30 or whatever it takes.

Note: It appears we are neighbors. I can pick those up from you.

The short lip of the "L" faces forwards and hooks under the bottom edge of the top of the pocket and supports it against vertical pressure - as in leaning heavily on the armrest - so keeps the split plastic from pulling off the single screw that holds it onto the armrest/door handle.

Good idea, if I get enthused I'll pull off the bracket and paint it black to better match the door.

I already run a home internet business and am not interested in going into production. I freely license the design to anybody who does want to get into the bracket business!

Thanks for looking

The inside measurement of the "L" is 1 7/8" by 1/4". I used a MST27 Simpson Tie that is about 2.7mm thick. Home Deport carries MST27s for about $6.00. Good luck!
