I joined Pelican Parts 3 days ago to contact a guy about an 86 he had for sale. The sale was already pending after he posted the ad here (in just 24 hours) but he was polite and answered my questions. I gave him my number in case the deal fell through.
Yesterday, I contacted a different Pelican Parts forum user named Phil Marsh about his 86 for sale. He posted it 24 hours before I contacted him so my first question was whether the car was still for sale (a legit question when good looking Porsches get snapped up quickly). Here was his response:
...Oh great, I can look at the PPI you had done 2-3 years ago...
Anyway, my first reaction was to think "What a jerk, he can't even spell the word "dumb"," but then I realized this might be the reaction of someone who has been trying to sell a POS Porsche for 3 years and can't get a buyer (there must be something seriously wrong with his car if people are passing on it)... or maybe he's not actually a serious seller.
Would never buy from someone like that. With a response like that he already tells you what kind of person you are dealing with. I'll keep the name and pass it along when needed. Good luck finding one you like.
I would have replied to the ******* in a "not so nice " manner telling him what to do with his "dump" car !!!
Definitely not somebody you want to do business with ...
It's been for sale since Oct-2011. Either the car is a POS or the seller is kryptonite to potential buyers.
He had this for sale during the peak frenzy over the past 12 months and couldn't get it sold. Something is not right.
I asked him why it hadn't sold after trying for 3 years (as long as he's owned it, interestingly) and he emailed me back and said he's selling because he broke his leg and can't drive it as much as he wants (that is a bad break for 3 years worth of trying to sell). He concluded by writing, "Do you want my life story or do you want to buy the car?"
Maybe he can't drive the car as much as he wants and all he has left in life is to troll potential buyers?
Not only was I a serious buyer, but I used to live in Vegas and was planning a trip there anyway to visit old friends. I had a friend lined up to go check it out for me too. But I'm not dealing with someone that rude.
You may not be aware of it, but 'is it still available' is an automated spammer email you get on Craigslist listings -- even 30 minutes after your listing goes up.
I'm on the alert if an inquiry starts that way on any newly-listed car or part...
However, since the seller chose to respond, it was self-defeating to go on the attack. The car may be a good deal, but when you see that much anger and dismissiveness in a response, you're probably better off not coming in contact with the guy.
