Here's some pics we took -- not the best as we were in the middle of removing the gas tank.

Looks to be in good shape...interior looks great. Where are you located (for temp variations)?

Really check well under the engine cover/behind the fan for any nesting critters as if they've built a nest it can create a hot spot that can lead to a barrel/piston failure.

They access the area thru the open heat vents in the engine bay (underneath).

Looks like a great find. The SC/Carrera's are really fine air cooled fun.

Wow. She looks great. With the interior in that great a shape you are way ahead of the game.

One way to think about it is what's a comparable car worth...then start reducing based on the costs to get it running safely, in addition to a "PITA factor" you'd have to absorb versus just buying the same car which has been driven and maintained on a regular basis.

Here's the latest update. Gas tank removed. We'd already installed new battery but that had to come out to get gas tank out. Purchased a refurbished tank on EBay (not sure about that one however!) The gas in the lines looked and smelled incredibly good which we were amazed. Going to blow out the lines and see what happens.

Have called numerous radiator shops and they don't/won't clean tank. New EPA regs I guess. Still thinking on how to clean the original tank as it looks 100% better than the one from EBay.

Gotta make a decision as to whether to buy or walk away and what to offer seller.

BTW we're in north Florida (Reiver asked that)

I wouldn't give any more info on the car or someone is going to poach it right out from under you.

That's darn good advice; happened to me couple years back, never again.

At least you've got the car reasonably disabled to deter seller and new buyer getting together.

My car had been neglected for about 5-6 years, took months of work - engine removal, reseal, oil and fuel systems, you name it - to resurrect.

Am happy to report it is now a fine, reliable car, having exorcised most ghosts by taking the advice of this forum along the way.

The cars are appreciating, and your find is considered low mileage, plus it's a G50 coupe, so no lack of willing buyers to keep the value strong.

Read some threads here, get an idea of investment to re-commission it, and make an offer. Here's hoping its accepted. They are a rewarding experience.

Listen up. Three years ago we found a garage find Sunbeam Tiger here in SoCal, 26 years of lockup. The tanks were solid dried muck. The fuel line was fully clogged with hardened residue from evaporated fuel and dirt. Nothing would go thru. Kano Labs products. Time and patience produced perfect results.

After hours and days of work we had success............ but for me it is the joy of doing.

The value in barn finds like this is in the body and interior. The engine can always be dropped if necessary. I rather have a car with a straight, rust free body and clean interior than one with a great engine with terrible body. The engine require regular maintenance anyway, so whatever this engine needs is what any engine would have required. I would clean the fuel system, change the oil, check/replace electrical, then crank it up and go from there. The exterior and interior looks mint, so I would value this car at market value minus the engine work. Various seals may need replacement, but unless it is an obvious problem, I would leave that until it is necessary. Whoever put it in the garage knows if it drove in or was pushed in. Why is sat for 16 years will tell you if the engine had issues.

Hopefully coupe is not doing work on a car without some agreement or outright buying it. From what I have seen the car is worth buying right now. I would advise sealing the deal now and not worrying about someone stepping in. We would all love to fall into a car like this, so you just opened yourself up to vultures swarming by posting to the forum. There are 88 coupes for sale in the high 30's and up. Subtract any possible engine work, and that's your value. Anything under $25 and I would buy it based on those pictures alone.

Thanks all. Took your advice and we are the proud owners......don't ask price but keep the suggestions coming. This is going to be a real project but so far it's rewarding.
