Kill switch and whatever alarm you chose. I do not like the alarms that perform the kill switch function as if they malfunction you are not going anywhere either....maybe a lojack too.

Skilled thieves / groups typically target the affluent areas. I remember a group back in the 80's hitting my neighborhood in the burbs. They were later caught and were from Chinatown NYC. The boldest was my friends house. He kept is '87 GTA parked outside, under his bedroom window and in-front of his watchdog (which also was kept outside).
They tranquilized his dog and pulled the w/ a tow cable, out of the driveway!!

Trunk Monkey
On a serious note, my cousin had his 1970 442 stolen out of his garage 15 years ago in NY. They thieves ripped off his garage door and used a tow truck to haul it away.
Good news is the perp's enjoyed the car so much they kept driving it without changing the plates so they got caught and my cousin got his ride back with minor damage.
He now stores his car on jack stands with the wheels secured by a chain and padlock to the wall.

At least in the SF Bay Area no none pays attention to car alarms. I hate them and never have used them. Then again I garage my cars at night.
I guess if I lived in an urban area with thugs everywhere and had no garage I would have to consider an alarm, but still no one seems to pat attention to them as everyone (almost) with an alarm sets them off themselves all of the time to the utter annoyance of their neighbors.

forget the kill switch alarm I hate them. I like the 1911 comment. twice evil has tried to get my 88. my alarms seem to last about ten years then they die. so what. I get a new one. I love the proximity warning. its like have radar around the car. I actually watched it stop a thief once as I walked out to the car. the second function that I love is the two way communicator key fob. it tells me when someone is messing with my 911, then me and my 1911 go see what is up. went off while I was in a 7/11. came out to find an badguy trying to steal the contents of the car. (go proximity sensor). Also the keyless entry it provides is something you will enjoy like in modern cars.
