Wheel Date Code Question
Hello,
I was checking the Date Codes on the rear and front Fuchs wheels of my late production 1979 Targa and came with the following date codes:
Rear (both): 2079
Front (both): 1077
Since my car is a 1979 production vehicle, is it possible that Porsche was still using 1977 production front wheels for 911 assembly during the first semester? Or were the fronts Fuchs substituted afterwards? Would GREATLY welcome the opinion of everybody here.
Regards,
Angelo

I would not be surprised if those wheels were forged in late 77 for the build of the 78sc. I think the sc was the first car to receive these wheels . It is very common for cars to be built the year before for the following model year. It still is that way today.
1077 = Calendar week 10 of 1977 (March of 1977)
2079 = Calendar week 20 of 1979 (May of 1979)
As iceman notes, they could have been built and stored awaiting vehicle production. This was long before Just-In-Time production.
Or, somebody could have swapped wheels at some point.

Iceman and 3.2 Targa,
Thank you for the insight. I was "leaning" to believe that the front wheels had been swapped at some point in time during the car´s history. Now, I infer that there is the possibility that the 1077 wheels MAY have been the original wheels. Greatly appreciate both of your feedbacks.
