Default Upgrading 3.0 into 3.2

I'm looking for info to possibly upgrade my 82' SC targa. I know that factory 3.2 used same bore as 3.0 but a longer stroke. So I know that I would need a bigger bore, but would I need a bigger head, or would they work with the 3.2?

I have been considering this too. I am no expert but i think a nice little mod wouldbe

SSI s
3.2 Piston and cylinders.
964 Grind Cams.
Possibly even adistibutor recurve.

As far as I know you ca get away with the same heads. What year SC do you have ? mine is a 78 with larger ports and runners.

hopefull someone who knows what they are talking about can validate .. Sounds like there are more than a few of us interested in this mod.

You need 98mm p/c, usually the combustion chamber needs a chamfer to mate to the bigger cylinder bore. There used to be 2 different designs from Mahle, one was for stock CIS FI, the other had a different piston crown which worked better w/ carbs or MFI and has more valve clearance for S type cams. Both had 9.8 cr
So the first decision is what fuel management is to be used and w/ what cams then decide which p/c set to use.

the later '84-89 3.2 Carrera used the same size 95mm bore p/c as was used on the earlier 3.0 SC, so it wouldn't help to use them.

The 3.2 Carrera cylinders make good cores to have bored out and nikasil plated for 98mm pistons because they don't have the CE ring groove like the 3.0 cylinders do. So they do have some use when doing a 3.2 SS.
