Default Tire age

My 84 Carrera has a very nice set of BFG G Force tires on it right now. They are next to new, in appearance. Since getting the car about a year ago, I've noticed occasional "darting", almost like the front end has a will of its own. Not all the time, but occasionally. The car was checked out thoroughly and inspected, so I know front end is sound and tight. Now wondering about the tires. I went back to the repair documentation I have and found that the tires were replaced in 2005. At nearly 10 years old , could that be the problem. Must admit, the ride seems harsh, but this is my first 911, so I don't have much to compare to. This is a low mileage car ( 54k) and only accumulated much less that 10k miles since tires went on in 05. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Don't use tires older than 7 years. More like 5. New tires will feel great.

Tire code on the sidewall will tell you the age of the tire. Replace it after 7 years, assuming the car is stored indoor.

If it's due, I would change it now. When tires get old, they will hydroplane. Rain season is a few months away so you want to do this before rain

You will notice a tremendous improvement in performance with a new set of tires over 7 year old tires. It will feel like a new in comparison.

Thanks all. The car will be going into winter storage in early November and does not get driven in any rain. The side wall date code indicates 2005 production dates for the tires, so new sneakers will be installed in the spring before it comes back out. Definitely are very hard and harsh. Really appreciate the info.
