912 engine swap
Sorry to bother the 911 forum but I have a question regarding a 912. Can you install a 914 or 914-6 engine in a 912 without too much trouble? I'm looking at a nice 912 which needs an engine and the 914 engines are available at a reasonable cost. Also, does anyone know what the 912 guys mean by a T4 engine?
Thanks in advance,
ZC

Its possible to do but its a HUGE job and hardly worth it, IMHO. I'd tell anyone to keep a 912, a 912 and buy a 6-cylinder powered car to begin with.
There are far more differences than meet the eye,....
BTW, a T4 (Type 4) engine refers to the late model VW engine made in 1.7, 1.8 & 2.0 litre sizes. These were used in VW Type II squarebacks, fastbacks and 411/412 cars. They were also used in 914's and the 912E.
The 1.8 and 2.0 litre versions are very good.

Thanks, Steve. Let me make sure that I understand your answer. A six is not a good option regardless of the source, 911 or 914-6. Is the four cylinder from the 914 a good option then or the T4 from the VWs?
Thanks,
ZC
