Default [911 3.2] Ignition question

Hey everyone,

I have a quick question on the starting/ignition of a 911 3.2.
After you turned the key in the ignition, do you want a little bit before starting the car or you just turn the key all the way through directly?

With all the cars I owned before I used to wait a couple seconds before starting it - usually I wait that all the lights turn off.

Thanks!

The lights will go out as soon as you turn the key to start. No reason to pause.

If you have to wait to get it to fire, then you need to service your DME.

You should be able to just slam the key all the way to the start position. I have two DME boxes. One has my custom chip and it requires me to wait (I'm too cheep to get it fixed), the other one has a stock chip and I need not wait.

No I don't need to wait it can start right away like a charm.
I just wanted to know if I had to wait so stuff in the car get "initialized".
For example on my Jeep if I don't wait for some lights to turn off by themselves and starts right away, some of them might not turn off after (driving with an orange light on is disturbing).

Anyway, thanks for the replies

No you are good to go right away. These cars are not that complicated.

A good question to ask people is how long do you wait to start drivin? The possibilities range from pulling out while the starter motor is still running up to waiting for the oil to reach fully warmed temperature.

well .... it is a Chrysler product.

On some more modern cars than hours the fuel pump comes on with ignition and you would wait until you hear the fuel pump stops as you know it has reachedsystem presuure .. But that obviously doesnt apply to ours .. Even much more modern day cars the system is so tight you dont need to wait at all.

my starter motor pushes me out of the garage

On a more serious note however as soon as idle stabalizes im off. Usually about 5-10 seconds, on a cold day maybe 15-20 seconds

Same here. It starts at 800RPM goes at 1400RPM then goes back a 800RPM. From that point I'm good to go.

Practice may have originated from the early days of TBFI, Throttle Body Fuel Injection, fuel pump needed a few seconds to pump up pressure. No harm to try starting right away even if the fuel pressure is low or even nil, just a few extra turns of the starter motor.

Some cars prime the fuel pressure by running the fuel pump for a few seconds when you turn key to 'RUN' but the 3.2L cars do not prime fuel pressure. Just going directly to 'Start' works just fine no need to wait.
