I discovered some mist on gauges and I am thinking to disassemble the gauge and change the gaskets....any idea on this? do you guys hv experience to repair gauges?
Funny you brought this up. I love that the gauges on my "new to me" '87 Cab look showroom new. Then the other day I noticed the temp and oil gauge has slight fogging. Glad to know its normal. I'll chalk it up the the crazy Florida humidity...
The backs of the gauges are exposed to the front trunk. Changing the "gaskets" does nothing. Any moisture in the fronk is going to manifest itself in the gauges. Make sure you don't have moisture in the frunk. Park the car in the sun with the hood up and the windows down for a bit. .....and welcome.
.....and if that doesn't work send them off to North Hollywood Speedo
My 1987 has the fogging issue on one gauge, but it is erratic, and only fogs once in awhile. Have had to accept this minor issue as something that must be tolerated . . . isn't life tough!!
i am starting to notice it now to . tis the season of humidity here... and once night falls and the air cools you se it .. only lasts for a few minutes though as it eventually clears.
I agree with the front trunk seal statement .. but if you do leave it open to the first click by accident it will clear ultra fast kind of like a " front trunk warning light"
Same problem on my '84. It's basically just condensation, I have never seen it create a problem, and I've had the car for 20 years.
Unless you see damage or it stops working, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you do have a problem, Hollywood Speedo is generally considered the go to shop, or just buy a replacement from a parts recycler.
I think the most annoying problem is water marks remain on the instrument glass after the condensation. I wish to disassemble the entire gauge and clear the water marks. Any idea?
I recently asked this as well. I was advised to send it out. I want to flip the glass in my tach. When it's really hot the glass is touching the needle in my tach. If there is a easy way to pull the front of the tach apart it would be great to know.
