I recently found my records from an '85 Targa WP0EB0912FS161457. I know there's little chance anyone who has the car will see this but you never know. Some guys might want the records. The guy who bought the car from me in 2000 didn't. The receipts go back to 19,000 miles and 1989 - probably the second owner. I was the third.
It is a silver Targa with black interior. Pretty much stock when I sold it except I had put 7 & 8" Fuchs 16" wheels on it. I sold it in Illinois in 2000 in a private sale. I don't recall the buyers name. It was a nice car.

wow the guy is an IDIOT for not wanting the records. Our cars are classics .. and even if he didnt want it for service records, they are part of the history of this clssic car . I would say hang on to these no matter what ....

Your point is well taken. But back then - it was more a "used car" than a budding classic. If I'd known what would happen to the value of these cars - I'd have tried harder to keep it - and my '79 SC, my '90 C2, my '71 Volkswagen Bug convertible, my '73 914, my '70 Karmen Ghia, my '88 944 Turbo S, and maybe even that '72 Fiat 124 Spyder - uh well maybe not. I sold all those cars for less than they'd bring now. My finances always required me to sell in order to buy. I often went a season without so I could sell in the spring and buy in the late fall when prices in the midwest dipped. Then there's the issue of garage space and wife tolerance for multiple cars. On the latter - she's pretty amazingly open minded. I've said I'd like to retire in a maintenance free community that offered 2-3 bedroom homes with a 5 car garage with high ceilings. Kind of a Sun City for auto addicts. Haven't found that development yet - but I'm looking.
