newbie wanting opinions on 75' 911S - PICS INSIDE!
Hello everyone. I'm considering buying a 1975 Porsche 911S. The car has nearly 100k miles on it. Paint isn't good, has Fuch wheels, ducktail spoiler, cracked dash, and missing some interior but, not a lot. The guy tells me the car runs and drives but not much more info. I did notice the car needed a front bumper and it looked like there was an oil leak under the rear. The body itself is in decent shape. Haven't really looked into the trunk or engine bay yet. I was wondering if you guys could give me an idea on what a good price for the car would be. I'd like to get the car and get it looking good and make sure it's running good but I don't wanna pay too much. If you guys were gonna buy this car as a project, how much would you pay?

That body is in terrible shape. I see rust on the hood and fender areas. Since it may have been produced prior to the full galvanized body initiation, you may be looking at considerable body work. As stated, you haven't looked in the engine bay nor trunk. Bad mistake. If it was me, Unless you have deep pockets and a lot of time, I would pass on this one. Looks to me like it has been ridden hard. Just my opinion.

Not to mention the 2.7 on that car was one of the weaker motors. You have to find out if any engine modifications were done. I would even be cautios of a 2.7 in good cosmetic shape.. this is a pass for sure

It's not even a parts car. They painted the oil lines.
Sorry. Unless it's in the $2,500 range and you've got another $20,000 just burning a hole in your pocket, it's time to run away.

The guy wants to put it on eBay. He says he thinks it'll get about 6k online but he's got alotta projects and would take less. I took these pics when I first saw it. I wanted to see if you guys could give me a general idea of how much a good price would be. Sorry about not getting the engine pics and all. I've been wanting to go back and get pics of interior, engine, trunk, underside, fender wells, etc. I know that'd give you all a better idea.

No. That's my answer. Why?
Rust.
Obviously driven hard.
Your only surprises are likely to be unpleasant and expensive. The only way I would consider it for a moment would be if opening up engine bay was like opening up Davie Jones' treasure chest of shines gold doubloons, the interior was like a time machine back to the 1978 showroom and you planned on convertining it to a rally car. Take your time there are better ones out there.

Today a 2.7 in excellent shape is a $20K car and you'll put $25K into it even if you do a lot of the work yourself, so if the seller offers you $5K to take it off his hands, you might break even.
Seriously, there are a lot of 1978-1988 SC/Carrara out there for $4-8K that need engine and body work. If you put the same time and money into one of those, you'll end up with a much better and more valuable car.

I need to do some reading and learn what all these cars are. I'm not sure what The difference in any of the cars are. SC, Carrera, generation years, which years parts are interchangeable, etc. Anyone have a good link to learn about all this?

Get a hold of Peter Zimmermann's book: The Used 911 Story. He goes over each year in detail. ....and he is a total stud.
