Funny you should ask.... I just purchased an oxygen sensor from oxygensensors.com for my 1986. I purchased the Walker 3 wire model which is only about $41, significantly lower than OEM.

An O2 sensor should be replaced every 60K according to the manual...my car is at 67K.

Be prepared to have a heck of a time getting the old O2 sensor out. Mine is rusted in place and Im gonna need to use some heat to get it out. Also...there is NOT very much room for a wrench to fit in there, even when you remove the tire.

Sonicdb, if you have not removed the cat sheild you need to. It gives you more space for the wrench.

Question 3 Wire O2 Sensor

Hi:

We bought a 3 wire universal O2 sensor for my son's 944....Can you tell me which color wire goes where?....since the original only has 2 wires.

Thanks:

Although a bit more expensive, I use the Porsche sensor, which can be bought at discount from Porsche. As I recall, Porsche specifies a cap on the top that other manufacturers may not include. Helps with weather tightness - someone was having a dickens of a time tracking down a wet weather running problem, and the Porsche sensor fixed it.

Oh, and if it's not common sense already, when you change to a universal, use the original cap fitting on the oem o2 that your throwing out. Use something like shrink wrap or some other enclosed connector to keep it safe from weather.
