New member, hopefully new P-Car member
Hello everyone. Id like to make this my introduction as well a journey to owning something very special: Porsche 911.
I am coming to the forum anonymously as I feel like I can talk to a group of individuals who share a similar passion and won't necessarily pass judgement. I come from owning several Subarus and was/still am an active member on the forums and it has really changed my life, and introduced me to several amazing people
About me:
I live in CT and I am a younger guy. I graduated in nursing, and have a pretty good paying job. I don't have any debt, no school loans, and have been saving up a lot of money to reach one of my dreams. I own a 99 Subaru outback as my DD which has already been paid off. I'm not married and don't have kids so I can realistically think about buying one of my dream cars...
I'll try to keep it simple:
-My budget is $40,000 after taxes. Plan to put $20K down and finance the rest. I'd like to have a car payment no more than $350 a month.
-This car will be my weekend warrior, probably won't see any track time but will be out there for some fun spirited driving. I will keep my Subaru outback for my daily driver to and from work/etc...
-I am looking at 997.1 911 carrera's.
-I am very well aware of the IMS/RMS issues, and while I know the numbers are inflated, it would still bother me. According to the Porsche settlement they can cover the costs for vehicles 10 years or less and up to 130K miles. Having said that, If I had an IMS issues in 2 years, I wouldnt get covered.
-Due to the reason above, I want an 06-08. I'd love an 09+ however those are significantly more money.
Questions:
-How are 3rd party warranties? Anyone have any experience. I'd like to get it for the car just for the peace of mind.
-S vs non-S (I've read a lot on this but still im stuck between these 2) I know the S has more power, PASM, red calipers, and other little gadgets. While the non-S CAN come with those options but usually don't.
-So knowing that is just my weekend toy, which would you choose. Get a lower miles non-S 911.1 or a higher mileage S 911.1?
Thanks guys!

First off, welcome!!
I'm going to take iceman's job and point you in the direction of the 997 forum for your 997-specific questions: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-gt2-gt3-forum-141/
On the topic of "what car" I like to recommend driving as many different generations as possible and find out what is right for you. If you haven't driven an air-cooled 911, I highly recommend it. Especially for a weekend warrior, the older 911's have a level of connection to the road that is unequaled by any modern car!
Have fun, and keep us posted!

I recommend driving a few different generations also, what's the rush . . . The air cooled cars might surprise you. Newer cars are great also, only different attitude. $30,000.00 will get you a very nice air cooled, and they don't depreciate like a new one will.

thanks guys. I totally noobed this as I didnt know there was a 997 specific thread. Oops. If moderator can move me there Id appreciate it. As for going for any older aircooled, Ive debated it. I love the way they look. However Im just not a fan of the interior on older gens. I barely like the 997 interior.
