Default Undercoat on new rocker panels?

New rocker panels for my Carrera; they have a base coating of primer on them now; would you spray on undercoating and then add new primer before painting them?

I recently replaced my front valance and did the undercoating, sanded it smoother (not perfect by any means) before painting it.

Pros: Durable where it's needed the most. Same surfice structure as valance.
Cons: Not as smooth - separates the rocker from rest of body in structure

What say you?

Rockers and front valances were a painted over "Stutz" finish from the factory. The '88 Cab I inherited from my brother-in-law had smooth rockers that were checking from the bondo that someone had used to smooth them out. They looked like shyte and I wanted the original finish back. During the refurbish it was determined that the original rockers were bashed and poorly repaired which explained the bondo. There was no rust and the original finish was restored, much better!
