What to do before I try to start my 77 911S 3.0 again
So here my cars story and a question-
1977 911S with a 1983/84 3.0 liter motor --- I got the car from an auction
in Florida (there's another story about French buyer did not check
shipping costs and I bought it from him) 9 years ago - Brought it back to
Savannah where I had a Pre-Purchase Inspection (after I bought it) and a
used starter installed. German Auto shop in Savannah gave me big thumbs
up on motor and car in general. Car has a few loose details before me -
It went swimming at one point - water lines in the gauges and 1/2 lbs of
sand under rear shelf pad ------ then got a complete new drive train from
an 83/84 SC 3.0 ......... Then it was stolen -which lead to a police chase
and went thru a chain link fence at I high rate of speed ...... then to
the auction and to me .
So when I got it - body was rough and starter was dead - But We think the
motor had just been rebuilt and installed just days before the car was
stolen and driven only a couple miles.
I drove the car less than one mile in my hood.... with my 2 little kids in
back seat and then started the disassembly that I thought would be 6
months (in 2005).
Car was disassembled over 2 years at my house. I would start it and let it
run 1 to 2 mins every 60 day +/- for those 2 years. Then off to a body
shop for a "Free" paint job that the owner of the shop owed me for
pigments that I sampled to him over a few years for special effect auto
paint jobs. Car was at that for 3 years - shop moved from one side of
Savannah to the other side (bigger shop and my car was pushed off into a
corner waiting it's turn - Some time during this 3 years the front main
seal leaked out a large puddle of oil and the shop did not tell me for
some time. I would go visit it about every 90 days and rotate the motor
by hand maybe 10 rotations but did not start the car after the oil leak..
I got the car back 2 years ago and started to put it back together slowly.
I still rotated the motor by hand about every 90 days. Now the car is
just about finished being put back together and I need to know how to move
forward. I will drop the motor and trans for the front main. I am
changing over to the Bitz EFi also ----
How should I approach the issue with a motor that is still leaking small
amounts of oil ( so I know its not empty) that has not started in about 5
years,?????
Thanks for you Patience and long read - but I wanted to give a short
background
