Hello everyone,
It's about time for us to do our first brake job on the 911. My Dad and I are looking into a set of Brembo drilled rotors online and was wondering if anyone has tried or use these and what their impressions are.
I found a set on ebay forfronts and there is also a set of rears available.
I know Brembo makes some of the best brakes available, but on some applications, such as BMW's, most people stay away from cross drilled rotors because they get stress cracks easily and look better then they perform. These of course were zimmermans but the concept that because there are drilled points in the rotor, there is less surface area and under hard braking conditions could crack easier.
I noticed the Brembos have more space between the holes compared to most cross drilled rotors, so maybe they are okay.
We have a `74 911 2.7 with the aluminum S front brake calipers. We will be rebuilding these most likely.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Jason

In 'drilled' rotors, there are two varieties, those that are literally drilled, and those with 'cast in' holes. Avoid the drilled variety, the crack way easier than the cast in hole variety, which ultimately crack too. Then there are slotted rotors, and stock solid face/vented rotors (actually they are all vented). For the SC's and earlier, I really like the ATE Powerdisc's, that have the swirly slotting in the rotor. The slotting helps to keep water and gases away from the face of the pad/rotor, and when the slots are worn away, you know it's time to replace the rotor.

No one makes an SC/Carrera size rotor w/ cast holes. Brembo makes a very nice slotted rotor
Unfortunately not for Porsche 911
The straight angled slots will have a useful effect on rotor cooling.
There are other manufacturers of this type of rotor.

Hi Jason:
I solidly concurr with the "Bills',...![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
We do not install drilled rotors on these early cars (pre-'90); the slotted ones are much much better in every respect and we do our own, based on ATE or Zimmerman OEM rotors.
The only drilled rotors we use are Brembo ones and/or the Zimmerman Turbo ones (78-89).

Thanks for all the input everyone. I had the ATE power discs on my BMW 3 series and found that they reduced fade allright but cut up the pads way too much. I switched to a solid non drilled/non slotted brembo and achieved MUCH better results.
This is a Porsche however so the slotted may be a great option, just trying to do some research.
Thanks again. This is a great community of knowledge and I am glad to be here. Hopefully some day soon I will be of help to members.
