Default 911...... shifting????

I have a 1985 911 and wanted to know what can be done to help shifting????

I have driven 924/944/968 for 10+ years and just recently sold a Boxster...... which lead to the Purchase a 911.
I love the car immensely but I guess I have been used to a slightly smoother and more compliant gearbox.

I have seen such kits as the wevo kit etc.... but do these kits help the shifting or do they only serve as a look out???

Any one have any tricks or recommendations to get the tranny to shift a little sweeter???

Thanks,
Paul

New bushings, realignment of the shifter, and Swepco as the fluid.

Thanks guys..... I actually just did all that + new clutch + cable + realignment etc.....

I was thinking more of an addition to the stock setup or a swop of parts.

Any suggestions???

Thanks,
Paul

if $ is not a huge concern, i've heard of folks swapping in the G50. i asked at my local shop and the guys said it would have to be the "shortened" version of the G50, whatever that means. it seems to me that the usual tranny should fit in there just fine. i have no idea, though. i also remember reading somewhere that the wevo side shift kit is supposed to help with speed and smoothness considerably. i've also read that the short shift kit feels more precise etc, but since a shorter throw means more torque on the stick over less distance, it seems like that would lead to less sensitivity in shifting, which is important with the 915. personally, i'm thinking about installing the wevo shift gate in order to avoid missed shifts, and just learn to live with the pausing between gears.
good luck,

Did they do the shifter bushings? Usually not part of a clutch redo...

Yes..... they did anything that would help.

I hear the G50 really does not make that much difference!!!!

I have shifted a few G59's and I think the difference is small....... not enough to spend bid $$$$ to do the swop.

Has anyone got a wevo kit or simular unit installed????? what do you think, does it help????

Just as a side line....... took the car for its first real spin ( I have had the car for about 2 weeks but is has been at the shop)
So last night I took her for a blast........ picture this:

A cool night, twisty Maine roads and a heavy right foot!!!!!!

Man I had a blast..... I am still smilling this morning.

Going to do it again tonight!!!!! and the next night and etc......

Thanks,
Paul
