May have found a solution in a lift that is designed slightly different in that the safety stop can be engaged at any height. That takes away one of my biggest concerns about the Bendpak and they are the same price.

This lift by Rotary might be the one.

Wow this is great I was looking at this lift all day, and doing a whole bunch of research on it and this is one of the first threads I see today. So with that being said I was just thinking today is there any issues with putting a rear engine car on it. Also is this a pretty durable and pretty reliable system, I plan to be lifting up and putting down a lot of Porsche's and classic beetle's and don't want them to tip off the lift or have the lift fail after putting on the locks. Thanks! Which lift are you referring to? The BendPak or the Rotary?

I am going to try and see the Rotary in person tomorrow. Will report back if they have one in stock.

I was referring to the BendPak at first but I have now started looking at the Rotary lift now too. Let me know what you think of the Rotary one though haha, I hope seeing one of the lifts helps your decision. Please keep us posted very curious about this subject at the moment.

I had that lift. But later sold it when this one came out. Not having the lift in the way when working under the car is so much better... And when I am done I just unbolt it from the floor and roll it against the wall to get all my garage floor space back...

Ayles, I think if you ask, having a lift just recessed in the floor would not be considered a "pit". They view pits as a place to drain oil, leak stuff etc. And as fare as the doors go….. look at my picture above…Carriage Doors, just for that reason, still 10 feet of overhead. On my wife's side I have installed an opener on the carriage door. I have a wood top to the lift so I can drive over it to park in the rear of the garage. It turns out this is the greatest 4 x 8 ft. work bench to come up from the floor. Great for all home projects, work on snowmobiles, lawnmowers, cleaning car parts, always need more work bench space, then down it go's out of the way. mark

That looks like the trick... especially if you have to drop the engine or trans.

there's a garage door opener called a 'jack shaft', lift master 3800, not terribly more money than a standard opener, and it frees up all your ceiling space.

Add a hydraulic table lift, and engine drops are a piece of cake!!

Just got back from our local dealer that had the Rotary Revolution Scissor lift in stock. They had it up on a storage rack so I had to climb a ladder to take a look. It appears to be well constructed and does indeed have many safety stops v. the BendPack which has 3. Looks very heavy duty.

They do charge a little more and I would have to pay sales tax, but they deliver and position the lift for you. They also handle warranty support. Both probably worth the price difference. I can't imagine dealing with an out of state vendor if there was ever a problem.

I could swear my BP has 5 stops, and works extremely well for engine drops.

There was a group buy a while back for the Atlas TD6MR, very similar to the BP and Rotary. Just FYI. I too am looking for a lift so I'm taking notes on all.
