Default G50 tranny question

I just got my first G50 box after having a 915 box years ago. This box has 77k miles and feels great except for the 1st to 2nd shift is somewhat hard. Its not so much like a bad syncro like the 915, just kinda stiff and not all of the time. Do you think I'm just being lazy and not depressing the clutch all of the way? It probable will need a new clutch soon.

Thanks for your time.

Weaver:

A few things;

1) G-50's shift better with a good synthetic oil; I like Mobil 1.

2) If the slave cylinder is going bad and/or hydraulic fluid is old, the clutch will not always disengage completely and you'll experience stiff shifting.

Weaver - Im going through the process of troubleshooting this very issue.

Thus far Ive switched to Mobile 1 gear oil - BIG difference when cold, but my hard 1-2 shift occurs when under heavy load, so obviously I cant test that until its warmed up.

Looks like #2 is next on the list...

Thanks Steve and Stutt! I thought about replacing the gear oil this winter. So Mobil 1 is the oil to use in the g50 box and not the swepco that you always hear about? Which Mobil 1 do you use, I think there are three weights.

Thanks alot.

Sometimes just changing the fluid will help - But they should have done that on one of the major services.
