if you have an older 911...they are held on by a compression ring (mine is an 80). Only way i could get mine off is put a wrench under it about the width of the gear shift lever and beat the heck out of it with a hammer. Don't put your head inline with the **** direction or it will pop you good. If you have a later 911, remove the shift pattern plate (you'll see that it pops out) and there is a screw underneath.

I think the wrench size is 15mm. I covered mine in duct tape to protect the **** and the shift lever. If it's a newer car with a G50 transmission, then there's a set screw underneath the shift pattern on top of the ****.

On my old '87......Just pop off the plastic shift pattern insert with a small screwdriver. Theirs an allen bolt inside, very simple

Good Luck
