Wiring.
I recently installed a short shifter on my 86 911. This was the first significant repair/upgrade I tried myself. When I was taking apart the console I nicked a wire to the hazards switch. I intended to fix it when I was putting it all back together but the whole process took me a couple of weekends and when I put it back together I forgot to fix the wire. Big mistake! A short time later it apparently shorted and fried pretty much all the wiring in the front end of the car. Fortunately the car didn't go up in flames but it was close! My regular shop (not a Porsche specialist but a good shop) looked it over and got a list of replacement wiring harnesses that totals more than $6000! Just for parts! A single wiring harness (#911-612-002-19) costs about $4500 ($5700 list). He is happy to help me find a cheaper source and/or maybe a specialist shop that can do this repair more efficiently. Can anybody recommend a source for used Porsche wiring harnesses? Additionally can anybody recommend a shop that is very experienced in older Porsche electrical systems in Southern California? Preferably San Diego area. Any other suggestions?
Thanks, Andy
