Default Carfax

I recently saw a post regarding Carfax reports. I want to get a Carfax but the cutoff is apparently 1981. I have a 1980 SC and my VIN is only 10 digits and not the required 17. Has anyone else run into this problem, if so what did you do?

Get the car inspected carefully by a qualified body shop to assess whether or not the car has had any prior body work that might effect its value. Since you already own the car, you can purchase a Certificate of Authenticity (sometimes called Cardex) from Porsche. Make sure all the VIN numbers match, and that the VIN, engine number and transmission number match up with the Cardex.

You can also call Porsche customer service at 800-PORSCHE, give them the VIN, and they'll tell you most everything that's on the certificate of authenticity. They can tell you the option codes, but they don't know what they are, however, there are books and internet sources (including here) for the translation.
