Default Carrera rear brake cooling?

Anybody have any ideas on how to rig up some kind of rear brake cooling system on a 1984 Carrera? I'm in the process of installing a ducted system for the front, and I want to cool the rears as well.

rears don't do enough work to require extra cooling.....

Without cutting metal or running long ducts, this looks to be simple but you realy have to be a very, very late braker to worry about rear brake temps. Now, how effective it would be depends on intake placement and body height/air flow. Pelican has a few write-ups on it. Simple search will get you more info than you need. GL

The paint on my rear calipers blisters and peels way more than the fronts do. Is this not indicative of heat? Not arguing, I just want to learn.

I saw that picture, but that thread did not indicate whether anyone actually went through with trying it. Those were made for GT3s?

You might have a sticking rear caliper or a bias issue. The fronts are doing the overwhelming amount of work in threshold braking.

The calipers are good; I just redid the piston seals and I tested them before reinstalling. Maybe I need a new p/v. Is there anyway to test it?

Have someone watch (or shoot some video) while you do heavy-to-threshold braking in a safe place -- check to see which wheels lock up first. If it's the rears, you might have an issue.

I'd suggest that if you had too much rearward bias, you'd know it already.

(I have an adjustable rear bias and tend to set mine right at the limit, i.e. VERY strong rearward bias. I have yet to note that I may need rear cooling despite the fact that I wear rear pads out at almost the same rate as I wear the fronts)

What about if everything is fine , but you are just using some paint that blisters easily ? just a thought..

Radiant heating due to nearby exhaust manifold?

so if I stomp on my brakes and rears lock up, there is an issue with that rear caliper(s) that locked up? Should the fronts lock up before the rears? Im new to this non ABS stuff. TIA

Yes, but don't stomp. All four will lock up. Go from medium-hard pressure to full pressure.

But KaiB is probably right. Especially in track driving, you'd have some serious issues if your bias was too far off. But it's a pretty easy thing to eliminate by testing.

And it could be that there was brake fluid present when the calipers got repainted.

Dont want to hi-jack the thread but what are the things to do to eliminate rears locking up?

I was bedding in my brake pads and the rears were locking up (while stomping the brakes)... I take it this is normal? The ground had dew on it...

When was the last time you flushed or bled them?
