Default Drove a '67 911S from KC to LA in one day.

My friend, The Ben, also a rennlist member, purchased the aforementioned '67 911S located in KC a couple of weeks ago. We flew out, picked it up and drove it home to LA in one straight shot. Want to know how it went? Story below:

Part 1: www.KeepItWideOpen.com/Tminus.html
Part 2: www.KeepItWideOpen.com/ColoradoMeltdown.html
Part 3: www.KeepItWideOpen.com/AmericanLeMans.html
Postscript: www.KeepItWideOpen.com/Webasto.html

If you enjoy the story please share it and like us on FB! Thanks in advance!

I've got you beat...Newark, NJ to Golden, CO -- 1775 miles -- nonstop in 25.5 hours in the dead of winter, all by myself. I did have a good working heater though

Well written and great photos, too bad he sold you on the bum heater story for so long! Heat works great in these cars!

@911Dave now YOU sound like a proper co-driver...

Thanks for all the comments guys! Glad you all dug it! [keep it] Wide Open isn't exclusively about Porsches (although we did another drive cross-country drive in a '77, earlier this year, www.KeepItWideOpen.com/amelia.html) but I hope y'all will check back periodically to read our roadtrip adventures... thanks again!

A great read, and impressive on maintaining 90+ mph; these swb cars get a bit lively at speed with a crosswind.

Your webasto heater story made me laugh. I've owned my car for a while, but have only pulled the **** out to the first position (blower), never all the way (glow plug activation). The thought of a 'controlled' combustion going on 20" in front of my crotch makes me apprehensive.

Btw - Bahama Yellow is gorgeous on these early cars. My 67S is a twin sister.

Don't worry Bruce, not the one in your avatar.

It was 1990 and I did it in a tuned-up '85 IROC-Z Camaro.

The only thing more boring than driving across western Kansas in the daytime is doing it at 3 am, wide awake on no-doze and listening to the farm report on AM radio.

Yeah, I like the Bahama Yellow too! Although I don't think we'd have opted to use the Webasto if we'd known what we were doing... I wish TheBen would've read the owners manual before I arrived...

1993 - Towson MD > Daytona International Speedway "Tunnel Gate" 855 miles in 10 hours 26 minutes (81.8 mph avg.) in an '89 T-Bird Supercoupe 5spd.

Tried to beat my time the following year but I-95 construction zones screwed me

1994 - Towson MD > Daytona International Speedway "Tunnel Gate" 855 miles in 10 hours 35 minutes (81.4 mph avg.) in same '89 T-Bird Supercoupe 5spd.

This would probably be a costly endeavor now, with all of the Speed cameras as well as traffic around DC Beltway !
