How hard is it to put a Porsche Engine into a Volkswagen Micro Bus? I'm talking something a long the line of Duel-Spark Plugs if possible - and slightly insane if possible
Or if anyone has done it in a different PROVEN fashion in the past that would be a plus also.
Any links to webpages here or afar would be greatly appreciated.
I know I am not the only nut to think of this before.
As my brother made a rhyme for me when I was little...
..."Timmy is a Nut, he has a Rubber Butt, every time he turns around, he goes PUTT-PUTT"...
Which makes perfect sense for me now since most of my old cars had the PUTT-PUTT issue.
If this post doesn't belong here; please someone point me in the right directions.
Good-hunting and good-motoring...

I used to be a Type 2 guy with a '76 Bus. Flat six conversions come in all shapes and sizes. Porsche did at least one themselves for factory use. There are also a number of Subaru conversions around. The Type 2 forums will be able to provide more details. I don't think that there is any "easy" way to put a 911 engine in a Bus. If it were me, I'd look at one of Jake Raby's Massive Type 4 engines instead. Fits right in, runs smooth, and very reliable.

One other thought. You can put a 3.6 liter motor in the Bus and have tons of power, but you better upgrade the suspension and brakes while you are at it. Then, you are looking at wheels and tires to keep up with the rest. That's a lot of money for the whole package. These vehicles will rust easily, have virtually no heat or AC to speak of, are loud, and get blown all over the road in side winds. It can be a fun project for sure, but for me to justify a big powerful 911 motor, I'd have to go with the whole package. You can end up spending some big bucks.
On my Bus, I did a number of suspension upgrades that really made it more useful to use on a regular basis. It still was no fun to drive in high winds. I made the motor reliable. I POR-15'd the whole bottom of it to try to keep the rust away (some other Type 2 folks have used roofing tar - really). If I were to keep going on it, I would probably move up to a larger diameter wheel for some shorter sidewall tires. GoWesty.com has Mercedes replica wheels available. Then, I'd have a good talk with Jake Raby about the motor. He has done some great things with Type IV motors. I think that it's more bang-for-the-buck than the 911 conversion.

one of the things I did notice at the car show. With the back of the headlight bucket protruding into the interior I concluded the driver is the crumple zone

Anything can be done; depends on how much money you throw at it!
Does any old geezer besides me remember back in the old "Sports Car Graphic" days when someone put a 4-cam Carrera motor into the "real" Fiat 500? That should have been an interesting ride!

Has been done, 993 engine on the Bus and in a Karhmann Ghia.
If I were to do this, definitely do the Karhmann Ghia, which is a beautiful car to begin with.
