Default Steering and feel of early 911

Does anyone know the difference between the '73 and '74 steering? Why is the '73 and earlier cars' steering so special. Especially the '73 RS. Can a '74 and later 911 be modified to steer and feel like the earlier cars?

I don't think there is a difference in the steering at all, could be wrong, more than likely it is because in 1974 they switched to the 5mph bumpers and new body style making it heavier.

Hi:

There is no real difference in the steering between the 73 and later cars.

What you feel are differences related to overall weight, F&R weight distribution, effects of positive wheel offsets, wheel width, and tire width.

Even the steering wheel diameter makes a big difference,.....

There is no question that a '74 and later car can be made to feel & handle like the '73 and earlier cars, if the weights are matched and comparable wheels & tires are used.

Be aware that the 73's and 74's weigh almost the same due to differences in seating, bumpers (aluminum vs steel), oil capacity, and suspension components. The 75's and later models, started gaining weight.
