Default 15" Tires for 3.2 Caerra

What tires are 911 owners using in 15", 6" front, 7" rears for tires. The original specs are 185x70x15 front and 215x60x15. Looking for a good tire for street and autocross. The front size seems to be no longer available. I'm using 195x60x15, the 215x 60's rear, Michelin Primacy's that came with the car......not great, but not too bad either. Thanks.

For street, the Firestone G019 are not bad, but they suck on autocross or DE. I ruined the rears in one DE weekend.

Tirerack is showing some Pirellis in the proper sizes, but I have not yet tried them.

Thanks for the response. I expect the Michelin Primacys will get eaten up the same way on the track. I did just see that Pirelli had the 6000 N1's with a 195 front tire instead of the 185 which will work. My last experience with the Pirellis was about 25 years ago. I wish the BF Goodrich Comp TA's in my size. I liked them much better but I'll probably give the Pirellis a try.

i had no idea Carreras even came with 15s ... Pretty amazing when you think about todays sports cars of 21 and 22 inch wheels.

Mine came with 15" Fuchs (7 and 8"). When my Toyo TIRs were done (205/55 and 225/50) I bought a set of massively heavy borbet cup replicas. They look ok on the car, and open a massive selection of street rubber, but their weight is very noticeable.

I've started to see cars with 15" wheels running these Falken Ziex tires:

Looks like you can get them in the stock sizes (185/65, 215/60) or the shorter profiles I had on my Toyos (205/55, 225/50). I'd be curious to know if anyone is running these, and how they've worked out?

You may want to check the width on your 15's. Although 15 x 7" and 8" may have been an option.

Here are examples of tires that will not interfere with either front or rear stock fender flange. The Nitto and Toyo's are much smaller diameter than the Pirelli. The Pirelli is a much more civilized tire than the others, but isn't very good in the rain or on the track.

Nitto NT01 225 45 15 front and rear

Toyo RA1 225 50 15 front and rear

Toyo R888 225 50 15 front, 235 50 15 rear This road/track R888 size 235 50 15 is the widest R compound type tire from any manufacturer.

Pirelli P 6000 195 65 15 front, 215 60 15 rear. These will not inflate your speedometer and odometer reading. All the others will. They were standard from Porsche on 15's 7 and 8 wide.

15" DOT slicks available from BFG, Hoosier, Toyo, Goodyear, Kumho, Hankook

I gave up on trying to compromise with 15s and grabbed some 17" fake Fuchs. Plenty of very good tire options, but I'm trying to fit the best tire allowed by a ruleset.

My OE 15" Fuchs are sitting nice and clean in a neat stack in the corner of my garage.

Pirelli have the P6000 in a new N1 Porsche homologated version in 185/70, 195/65 and 215/60 in 15', that drive nicely on my '84 Cab. I would not try them on a track, though.
They are NOT the same as the previous P6000 that had a horrible reputation.

15" Phone dials were the standard wheel on '85 Carrera's.

Are you open to selling your 15" Fuchs?

Hello Gentlemen, I'm a newbie to the Forum. I picked up a 87 Carrera in 2010 (my first Porsche) that has the standard 15" Fuchs. The PO threw in 2 sets of 17" wheels that I am thinking of putting on, not sure on what tire size I should use on the 17" wheels. The car is only used for street driving during summer till late fall. Appreciate your feedback.

welcome aboard . i see this is your first post ... you should create a new thread for this topic .. the guys might give you a hard time running 17s but dont sweat it and we will want to see pics of your car ..

I am running 17s and am in Cambridge so we will run into each other sooner or later I am sure. I will tell you my tire sizes , but it also depends on the width of the rim.

I run Bridgstone but its kind of whatever you like . Lots of choices available

front : if you are running 185 70 15 you could run a 205 50 17
Rear if you are running 215 60 15 you could run a 255 40 17

This will be a pretty close fit for speedo etc but your rims woul dhave to be wide enough

use this tire calculator and play around.
