As you may have seen in my previous post with photos of the new to me 84 Targa, I live on a short dirt road/driveway. No way to availd rocks in tires,etc..
Has onyone fit up or fabricated small front stone guards? I have the rear factory flaps which really do well, but none for the front. It appears that I could attach a small contoured flap onto the cover trim cover plate behind the front tire. Not sure of others may have a better option they've developed. Thanks, Steve
Wondering if anyone has done this or seen this mod? Definitely not ideal for looks, but my reclaim road surface is brutal and just waiting to do damage. I wondered about taking the rocker caps off and using replacements to serve as a mounting point - using a couple drilled holes and nuts/bolts to secure. Could fabricate matte black plastic guards to be as discreet as possible and get the job done. When no longer needed, simply remove the caps and replace originals. Thoughts? Thanks
That or you could get the clear 3m material and cover the impact area.
I live on a dirt road too...I don't notice any more chips than normal really. OTOH, with the original paint job and 230k plus miles hard to tell lol.
Never seen front flaps, except on rally cars. Search for some pictures of them from various angles. Maybe some ideas for attachment can be found there, just shorten the flaps.
Thanks guys. I may be far too concerned about this to be rationale. Happens a lot. I may try some 3M clear shield on the front portion of the rockers to see how that looks. The uneven finish due to undercoat may make it look funny, but easy enough to try. Always nice to keep good original paint looking nice. Funny thing is that the 1984 Porsche dealer brochure shows a Targa headed to the mountains for a day of skiing! Yikes! Seems like a factory accessory opportunity if there ever was one. Not likely to happen from my garage. Thanks again.
