Anybody have any positive experience with a certain bike roofrack for their 911?
I'd like to get one for my car that has the bike "standing up" on the roof without the front wheel (forks mounting to the rack?)... interested in hearing what others have used and liked!
Thanks.

I had a Saris roof rack that fit on a 944. I remember at the time looking to see if any fit a 911, and I couldn't find any. I think the issue is with the curve of the roof of the 911. This was a few years back. So, there might be something available today.

I've seen posts for people selling Thule racks that attach to the rain gutters on 911's and carrying everything from bikes to track tires. I haven't owned one myself though.

Used Yakima gutter mounts for over 20 years all up and down the West Coast for everything from bikes, front wheels mounted or not, to skis/boards, to a carry box. Never any problems. Cuts your freeway mileage at least 10% though......

Thanks guys! I'm going to stop into a local "rack" place this weekend that carries Thule and Yakama... so far it seems Yakama has a very good reputation amongst us 911 owners.
PS: Keep the pics coming, I love a 911 with some cargo on top!

My cabriolet makes it easier to load / unload, but I carry my mountain bike in the car without using a rack. It only works when I'm driving there solo since the bike takes all remaining space.
Gear bag goes in the passenger seat.
Both wheels (maybe the seat too) go in the front trunk.
The frame is wrapped in a tarp, secured with bungee cords, and is slipped behind the front seats.
Back seats are folded down.
With my full tonneau cover, the bike is fully hidden, etc. when parked.
I always get plenty of amused stares in the parking lot when I pull a bike out of the car. Also, the drive to the biking spot is half the fun if I'm in the 911.
The width can be a tight fit depending on what bike I use. An XL frame may not fit.

Years ago, a old girlfriend had an African Grey, and we bough him a HUGE, new cage for Caesar.
Well, at that time, I didn't have a truck, and she wanted it right away, so, since it was only a few miles from our condo, I loaded that huge cage on my Yakimas on the 911 and headed home. Worked fine, but boy did I get a lot of strange looks..
