Wires arent cheap .. but if you figure you are going to replace them every twenty years or so....
just start it at night and see if you can see a spark leak .. If they are leaking from everywhere then it is time for new wires.

At the advice of my local tech guy (great mechanic!: 2 for 2 on over the phone diagnosis!) I acquired some silocone dielectric grease (pure silicone...) to coat the connections on the distributor cap. I wasn't sure whether to just cover the rubber insulator interiors, or the metal clips, so, I did both. VIOLA! The car runs smoother than silk, according to my pilot-wife. And, I can now touch the rubber caps while the car is running, and not a hint of arc.
So, I recommend the silicone, also known as 'boot release compound', and other names. It did the trick for me. Paid roughly $9 at O'Reily's. They had it in 3 different packages; small pouch, squeeze tube, and pressurized can.
