Default Need help with my interior

I just rescued this 2000 Millenium edition. Overall, its in good shape although you purists out there may not approve of the aftermarket bumper and spoiler. It has the leather and wood trim interior. The map pockets on the doors both have cracks that were half-heartedly filled in with some kind of epoxy. The driver side one has also cracked since then. Does anyone know where I could get them refurbed or get replacements? My friend owns a body shop and checked with Porsche. To get OEM replacements was somewhere around $1,200 each. Apparently, they're lined with gold or something. Any help would be appreciated.

It's not worth rescuing a 2000 996. Save your money.

Posting this question on the 996 board would probably yield more answers. Places like DC Automotive and other Porsche dismantlers could probably knock that price down some.

Although an atempt at humor there is a lot to what Ed said .. if you are saving it from Flood damage or some other major malady you could end up upside down quickly as early 996s are practically worthless unless they are in really nice shape..

The 4-piece door kit is a better deal, you get all four pieces for under $1200.. Still pricey, but possibly a better way to go.

Wood Door Kit

We have seen a few Millenium Ed. owners spend big bucks to preserve their car, they are rare!

Marc, in all fairness, I qualified that post, with my second one.

Thanks for the advice everyone. And for the record, I laughed at Ed's first post, it was funny. I cried a little too, but it was still funny. This is my first Porsche and I say I "rescued" it because the last owner was a smacker and didn't take great care of it (which, unfortunately, I discovered later). I don't intend to restore it per se or try to sell it later for any type of return. I really just want to enjoy it as a daily driver. Since my mother's let me take her 944 to my high school prom about 100 years ago, I've always wanted a Porsche. Que the violins. Of course, I don't have $100,000 liquid at this juncture in time, so I had to go used. Cosmetically, the interior is pretty good (for me anyway), its just the map pockets that need fixing. And thanks for the clarification on the 996 board versus this board, I freely admit that I'm about as sharp as a bowling ball.

You'll have fun with it, I'm sure. But, the issues with the IMS bearing are real, so be sure to address, if not done already. There is a fix.

RMS leaks seem to be hit or miss, but of course, a lot of Porsches leak oil, so stay on top of the level. Be sure to learn how to check oil level correctly.

The 996 will be a better drive than 98% of the other cars out there.

Thanks, Ed. My mother dropped me on my head when I was a baby, so bear with me. Im sure you know the next two questions Im going to ask you...
What is the IMS bearing and its issue?
What are RMS leaks?
So far, other than replacing the cracked coolant reservior, I haven't had any issues.
Thanks

The Millenium edition was a limited edition car, right? How many were made and how were they optioned? It may be time for a Bing Search...

Finished in Violet Chromaflair paint with natural leather and dark burr maple trim. Only 911 were made.
Daniel is your car a stick or tip?

Yes, basically, due to a Intermediate Shaft bearing design flaw, it can disintegrate, distributing shrapnel throughout the engine. Basically, trashing it. RMS= rear main seal.

As ice says, plenty on the interwebs...
