Default Air Compressor (tire) Storage Location

I recently took delivery of my '87 911 Cabriolet. I am becoming a bit of a neat freak, and the PO had the spare tire air compressor just lying in the luggage compartment. The Owner's Manual claims that this, along with the jack and tool kit are stored/located in front of the spare tire. I, for the life of me, don't see how the compressor can fit up there. I also can't imagine that Porsche would not have had some means to secure/strap this thing down... and the OM does say it goes in front of the tire. However, I have seen plenty of boo-boos in Porsche's literatre. Any words of wisdom here fellas?

Nah... I got this car to not just look cool in, but to BE cool in.... gotta keep the AC. Surprised you would say that seeing that you call AZ home. Been hot as the surface of the sun out there lately!

Mine's in the smuggler's box, although it's a more modern, smaller and functional kit ... as the AC from front to back is removed down to the last bolt !

Cheers

The "Porsche" compressor is a U.K. made compressor by Intercomp or some such.

It belongs neatly placed on a shelf in the garage. Get either a Viaire or a Superflow compressor. These will actually work and justify lugging around a compressor in the front trunk. They come in canvas bags that won't slip on the carpet, and you just wedge the compressor behind the duffel bag that you should be carrying with jumper cables, and various small spare parts.

Thanks gents. I have been seriously considering the garage shelf option.... think I'm gonna do just that.

By the by... and pardon my ignorance, by "smuggler's box", do you refer to the engine bay?

No sir. Smugglers box is the odd shaped lid in the right back side of the trunk. It's where the Evaporator for the AC is located.

I believe the frunk is in the front ... lol
Can i suggest the small "Slime" brand compressor and bottle of flat repair juice,it comes in a small carry pack and it is a lot easier to use than trying to inflate a 25 year old donut that has been taking up room in your front trunk !

Cheers

I think it belongs on ebay. I sold my working one for $100 and replaced it with a little one that lives under the passenger seat.

^I bought one at Hershey this year. I opted for one with the tabs broken off, that saved me about $50.
When it comes to the tabs on those compressor cases there are two kinds: ones that have broken off, and ones that will break off. I figured I'd save myself the money and aggravation.

FIFY. I agree, the slime is probably the better emergency choice.
