More things to add to a master restoration list:

Vehicle went through significant amount of service and mechanical repairs that totaled over $10,000 and was done by a Porsche specialist in Tucson Arizona. This extensive service had the engine out and almost all wear items were replaced or updated. Fuel tank removed and pressure washed and cleaned extensively, fuel pump, Carrera oil tensioner upgrade, new gaskets and thermostat O-ring. Cam tower oil lines & Seal rings, resealed top of engine, installed new breather cover and gasket as well as breather hose. New plugs and wires and many transmission seals. New airbox and flywheel seals and fuel filter. Adjusted the timing and set proper fuel mixture. All new brake pads and rotors were added as well as fresh fluid and proper gaskets along with brake calipers rebuilt. Heat exchanger and new side oil return tubes as well as reseal transmission. CV boots and joints repacked, new sunroof seals shift tower, replace shifter bullcup and rebuild rear shift coupler.

I'm not seeing the value of this thread. There are a ton of things one can replace on a car, but it's kinda silly to make a master list. Each car will be different, and most have seen some maintenance along the way. Example-CV joints. To simply replace those without inspecting what is there, would be foolish

I bought a Carrera with limited service history and ~150k this year. It had been looked over by a trusted Porsche mechanic, who found no evidence of accident damage. It looked like recent mechanical & brake work had been completed, as well as new tires installed, before I purchased it. In no particular order, here are my plans for the next year or so of ownership, some of which have already been implemented:

-Major service (oil change/vavle adjustment)
-Turbo valve covers
-Recalibrate gauges
-Go through the wiring & replace the fuse panels with conventional blade-style fuse blocks
-Shifter bushings
-Short shifter
-New windshield w/ radio antenna
-New headliner
-New dash pad
-Fill hole in fender from radio antenna
-Reupholster RS-style door panels
-Remove cheap carpet & paint floor
-MOMO steering wheel
-New weatherstripping & seals
-New fog light lenses
-New front spoiler
-Install era-correct cassette player & speakers
-Install racing seats & harnesses
-Install fire extinguisher

It's not to replace everything. It's to catalog all the various things that one might encounter when owning a 911. It's called "worst case scenario", and one would be naive to not consider that extreme of possible reality.

That is why most here push for a PPI by a competent shop. Many new buyers wouldn't know whether something needs fixing or not.

The best way to assimilate the things that can be addressed? Take the plunge and buy a car.

I fail to see the value of this, and all the other what if/survey/what number am I thinking of threads.

Every part on the car will eventually need replacement.

.....dropped the engine and did a overhaul on everything. I fixed every gasket leak on the front and back of the engine while degreasing and cleaing it. Any metal parts were sandblasted and powder coated including the engine tine around the engine. When the engine was out the upgrades include: NEw Oil return tubes and Cam lines,Turbo valve covers, new distributor cap, spark plugs, and wires, K and N filter, New slave cylinder and mater cylinder with hydraulic fluid flush for the clutch system, Test pipe replacing the Exhaust cat and Bursch Exhaust both taken to the coater and Ceramic coated black. New engine bay sound liner, Motor Mounts, New Battery 4 months old, new fuel filter with recent oil change.

Was with a Porsche tech going over a carrera his customer just purchased, not cheaply. Car looked great cosmetically, with 135k. Very straight, no rust, accidents etc. No PPI.

Up on the lift, the story started to change. Broken clutch spring. original shocks. Hood shocks fore and aft needed. Throttle linkage about to break. A/C mount broken. CV boots had large holes. Front bearings seem needed. Large, ugly oil leak. Engine insulation needed. Large mouse nest back there. On and on. Obviously engine needs to be dropped to fix leak etc. God knows what else it will need.

This has gotta be a $4,000 plus who knows how much more job. He won't be happy.

No PPI? You gotta be crazy, unless you really know what you're doing.
He obviously had no clue, and now he'll have to pay to get it right.

Lesson learned.

You might want to put that imaginary fire out in your pocket, cause the imaginary fumes are effecting your sanity.

Or, buy a car without even giving the underside or engine bay a cursory glance.

What is it you are trying to do? If I didn't have a life, I (or most here) could make a list of every possible thing we've seen or had go wrong. You are not contributing anything, IMO.

I was just using this thread to make a personal master checklist of stuff to inspect or possibly fix if I buy a 911.
I figured there might be one other person who may want a similar list one day.

Seeing work done by others also gives me keywords to search and learn about.

If you want, since this thread seems to serve no purpose, I will copy off this thread into an offline file.
