suggestions for mechanics in SoCal
Anyone have a mechanic/shop they'd recommend for doing a check of a potential used 911 purchase? I'm in Pasadena, so anything within 50 miles is probably OK (plus, you never know where the car will end up being). What's a typical price to pay, and will they travel, or is it better to talk the seller into taking it to the shop (where I assume they can do compression checks, etc).

I highly recommend Haydon Brothers in Anahiem. Not sure how much they will charge, I'm guessing $100 or so. I bought my car in San Jose and had PPI done up there but HBros has done all the work on my car. Ask for Doug, he patient and accomodating.

I concur about Haydon Bros, also Hergesheimer in Lake Forest is a good wrench - but both are in Orange County, a fair pop from Pasadena. I'm sure there are good shops closer to home.
Two suggestions - one, contact (better yet, join) your local PCA Zone 8 Listing, there is a chapter in San Gabriel valley. Two, try this post on the Pelican Parts Technical Forum as there are a fair number of LA/SoCal folks active there.
Good luck!

I use TRE Automotive as well, but for my VW Scirocco,(since I don't yet own a 911)
Dave and Jeremy are great guys, and all their work has been excellent.
